Alhama perches on the edge of a dramatically beautiful gorge. First the Romans, then the Moors developed the hot springs 2 kilometers outside the village in a peaceful and picturesque valley. The old Arab baths still exists and can be seen by visiting the hotel.
The village itself is large, vibrant, unspoilt and very Spanish. Alhama hosts some of the best fiestas in the area and its lively, colourful Carnival attracts people from far and wide. The upper square is a great place to watch the world go by whilst sitting outside one of the many bars and restaurants. There are many excellent trails leading into the natural parks of Tejeda and Almijara, ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding.
